Global Goals Jam Kyushu 2023: Call for Participation!

Bio-diversity in Kyushu

Global Goals Jam (GGJ) is a two-day public participation design workshop to think about sustainability from a global perspective and generate ideas for solutions to local issues to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). The workshop will be held at Kyushu University’s Graduate School of Design, Kyushu University, Japan. The workshop has been organized by Kyushu University since 2016.

We want to welcome interested people to participate in the 2-day workshop!

◼︎ Date: Saturday, September 30 – Sunday, October 1, 2023  9:00-18:00

◼︎ Venue:

September 30: Fieldwork (Project A and B: Fukuoka City, Project C: Yabakei, Nakatsu City, Oita Prefecture)
October 1: Kyushu University Ohashi Campus (4-9-1 Shiobara, Minami-ku, Fukuoka City)

Watering Project
Can you create a public service system that creates sustainable social value?
Ideas for tools and service mechanisms for watering city flowerbeds considering the environment, utilizing rainwater, grey water, running water and accumulated water, etc.

1. Naka River Project
The “Naka River Mirai Conference” project aims to create a waterside space to realize well-being along the Naka River in collaboration with the public, private and academic sectors in the Naka River watershed located in the center of Fukuoka City.
Can we deliver this project to the public so that they will actively participate in the project?
Propose ideas for the activities of the Naka River Mirai Conference, including its identity, information diffusion, and participation.

2. Yabakei Project
Yabakei is a beautiful valley located in Nakatsu City, Oita Prefecture, and has been selected as one of Japan’s three new scenic spots.
Can we all protect the beautiful Yabakei River from heavy rain disasters?
The river is usually beautiful, but was damaged by torrential rain flooding this past July.
After the flood damage, how can we take action to restore the community, and how can we live in the watershed?

SPRINT 1 | Explore it! Explore the issues!
We will enter into the context of issues through field research and dialogue with partners.
SPRINT 2 | Respond to it!
How can the problem and its context be used to inspire new ideas?
SPRINT 3 – Make it!
We will create a prototype to clearly communicate the problem and insights and share our story with others.
SPRINT 4 | Share it!
Share your project with the world through a presentation.

◼︎ Capacity: 15 people (first-come-first-served basis)

Those who want to turn the outputs of workshops and ideas into actual products, not just ideas.
Those who are working on the SDGs and social issues as a job.
Those who are working on the SDGs and social issues as individuals.
